Off Grid Inverters

An off grid inverter is bi-directional and designed to manage the energy flow in and out of the battery storage. The energy can come from solar inverters, DC controllers, or a backup generator, to charge the batteries and from the batteries to supply energy to the loads.

Types of inverters for off grid solar electrical systems

We generally use one of two types of inverters for solar systems that are ‘off grid’ - not connected to the national power grid. They both perform the same basic function (converting DC power to AC power and AC power to DC power), but where they differ is their functionality and features. In standard and large off grid systems, we would generally recommend a Selectronic Inverter from Australia, for Bach’s and Tiny homes we would recommend Victron from Europe.

Selectronic AC Coupled Inverters

Selectronic off grid inverters

The Australian made Selectronic Off Grid inverters are the “Rolls Royce” of battery inverters. There is an incredible amount of functionality built into these inverters, which makes them ideal for use in standard and large off grid installations. We would generally connect a Fronius solar inverter with the Selectronic battery inverter, making the system AC coupled with joint communication between the two inverters.

victron off grid inverters

The European made Victron Off Grid inverters are ideal for smaller applications such as Bach’s, Tiny Homes, Buses, and Boats. Victron inverters are compact and they offer a huge variety of add-on components that communicate together to provide seamless energy management.
